Precision CNC Press Brake Folding Services

Accurate, Repeatable CNC Folding at Any Scale

At LGM Engineering we provide precision CNC folding and press brake forming using our Amada HFE-3i press brake, supporting accurate forming across a wide range of materials, thicknesses, and part geometries. The machine’s 7-axis backgauge system allows complex, multi-stage bends to be produced with high positional accuracy, even on parts with tight tolerances or multiple folded features.

The press brake is equipped with Amada DIGI-PRO angle measurement, which continuously monitors bend angles in real time and automatically compensates for material variation and springback. This closed-loop control ensures consistent bend angles across repeat batches and removes the variability often associated with manual adjustment, particularly when forming high-strength or spring-sensitive materials.

Our CNC folding workflow is designed to support everything from one-off prototypes through to short and medium production runs, without compromising accuracy or repeatability. CAD-driven programming ensures bend sequences, tooling selection and backgauge positions are defined directly from customer data, reducing setup time and eliminating interpretation errors.

We maintain an extensive press brake tooling library, including a large selection of radius bending tools and specialist Dutch folding tooling. Folding operations are fully integrated with downstream processes including welding, finishing and assembly, reducing handling between stages, improving dimensional consistency across batches, and ensuring folded components arrive ready for the next operation or final installation.

Press Brake Capabilities

Beam Length

With a 3 m press brake beam, we can efficiently and accurately form everything from small precision components to full-length folded panels.

Bending Force

Our press brake operates with up to 100 tonnes of bending force, enabling fast, precise forming across a wide range of materials and thicknesses.

Accuracy

Our press brake is equipped with Amada DIGI-PRO technology, providing real-time angle measurement and automatic correction for precise, repeatable bends.

Mild Steel

We routinely form mild steels including CR4, DD11, S275 and S355, achieving consistent accuracy and repeatability across prototypes and full production runs.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steels including 304, 316 and 420 are formed with high accuracy and repeatability for both prototype and production quantities.

Aluminium

Our press brake handles aluminium grades including 1050, 5251 and 5083, producing accurate, repeatable bends for both prototype and production parts.

Brass

Brass is formed using appropriate tooling and controlled pressure to achieve clean, accurate bends for both one-off and production parts

Copper

Copper is formed with controlled tooling and pressure to preserve surface finish while achieving accurate bends.

Titanium

Our press brake is equipped to form titanium components accurately, with specific consideration given to material behaviour and springback.

Integrated Laser Cutting and Press Brake Folding

Maximise efficiency by combining laser cutting and press brake folding within a single, controlled workflow. We take your designs from flat sheet through to accurately formed components, maintaining precision and consistency at every stage.

  • Precision cutting preparation – CNC laser cutting of mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium, accurately cut to size for forming

  • Custom cut components – Laser cut blanks produced to suit specific bend allowances and fold sequences

  • Accurate press brake folding – Multiple controlled bends and folds carried out on laser-cut parts using modern press brake equipment

  • Optimised blanks – Laser cut components sized and prepared to ensure efficient, repeatable press brake operations

By carrying out laser cutting and press brake bending under one roof, we reduce handling, shorten lead times, and maintain tighter quality control, resulting in reliable, cost-effective folded components.

Folding FAQ’s

Our 100-tonne CNC press brake allows us to fold material up to 15 mm thick, subject to bend length, material type and tooling.

The maximum folding length is 3,000 mm, however full length bends are not achievable at maximum thickness due to tonnage limits. Thicker material requires shorter bend lengths, which we will confirm at quoting stage.

We regularly fold:

  • Mild steel

  • Stainless steel

  • Aluminium

  • Corten steel

  • Brass

Material grade and surface finish can affect achievable bend radii, springback and overall accuracy.

Typical folding tolerances are:

  • ±0.5 mm per bend for material up to 6 mm thick

  • ±1.0 mm per bend for material over 6 mm thick

Tolerances depend on material type, thickness and part geometry.
Any critical angles or dimensions should be clearly highlighted at quoting stage.

If higher accuracy is required, we can produce test or trial parts first to fine-tune bend allowances and reduce tolerances before full production.

No.
We calculate bend allowances and deductions in-house based on material, thickness and tooling.

Minimum flange length depends on:

  • Material thickness

  • Tooling

  • Bend angle

As a guide, the flange must be long enough to sit securely in the press brake tooling. If a flange is too short, we’ll flag it before production.

Springback is the natural tendency of metal to relax after bending.
We compensate for springback during forming, but it varies by material and thickness.

Minor marking from tooling contact is normal in press brake folding.
If surface appearance is critical, let us know — protective tooling or alternative methods may be available.

Yes. Grain direction should be clearly specified on the drawing, as it affects appearance and consistency.

Yes. Folding can be supplied:

  • As a standalone service

  • Combined with laser cutting

  • As part of full fabrication, welding and finishing

To quote folding accurately, please provide:

  • DXF or 3D model

  • Material and thickness

  • Quantity

  • Any critical angles or dimensions
