Working with Copper

Copper is a non-ferrous metal valued for its excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, and ductility. At LGM Engineering, we laser cut and fabricate copper sheet for applications where conductivity, heat transfer, and material performance are critical. Copper is commonly used for electrical components, heat management parts, architectural features, and specialist industrial applications.

Copper offers outstanding conductivity and forms well when processed correctly, making it suitable for precision components and functional parts. Its natural corrosion resistance and distinctive appearance also make it suitable for exposed or decorative applications. Careful handling and processing are required to maintain surface quality and dimensional accuracy during fabrication.

All copper material is processed in-house using fibre laser cutting and CNC press brake forming to achieve accurate profiles and clean edges. Where fabrication is required, copper can be joined using suitable welding or brazing techniques, selected based on thickness, application, and finish requirements.

If you are unsure whether copper is suitable for your application, our team can advise on material selection, fabrication methods, and finishing considerations based on performance and use-case requirements.

Processing Information

1

Laser Cutting

Copper is laser cut using controlled fibre laser parameters suited to highly reflective materials. This produces accurate profiles and clean edges for thin sheet and precision components while maintaining material integrity.

2

Folding & Forming

Copper can be folded on CNC press brakes using appropriate tooling and controlled bend allowances. Careful forming ensures consistent angles and clean radii, particularly important for precision and visible components.

3

Welding

Copper can be welded or brazed using suitable processes depending on thickness and application. Fabrication is carried out with care to ensure strong joints while preserving conductivity and surface quality.
