Working with Aluminium

Aluminium Laser Cutting & Folding

Aluminium is a lightweight, corrosion-resistant material commonly used where strength, weight reduction, and clean appearance are important. At LGM Engineering, we laser cut, fold, and fabricate a range of aluminium grades for industrial, automotive, architectural, and general fabrication applications. Aluminium offers an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and is well suited to both functional and aesthetic components.

We regularly work with 1050 aluminium, which provides excellent formability and surface finish for folded and cosmetic parts, as well as 5251 aluminium, commonly used where moderate strength and good corrosion resistance are required. For higher strength and structural applications, we process 5083 aluminium, which performs well in demanding environments, and 6082 aluminium, a versatile structural grade offering good machinability and strength.

All aluminium is laser cut in-house using high-power fibre laser systems designed to produce clean edges and accurate profiles with minimal heat distortion. CNC press brake forming is carried out using controlled tooling and appropriate bend allowances to ensure consistent results across production runs. Welding is completed using suitable processes to produce strong, reliable joints while maintaining material integrity and dimensional accuracy.

Material grade selection is matched to the application, taking into account strength requirements, forming behaviour, corrosion resistance, and finish. If you are unsure which aluminium grade is best suited to your project, our team can advise on the most appropriate option based on performance, fabrication requirements, and cost.

Processing Information

1

Laser Cutting

Aluminium is laser cut in-house using high-power fibre laser systems optimised for non-ferrous materials. This produces clean edges, accurate profiles, and minimal heat distortion, making the process suitable for thin sheet through to thicker plate across prototypes and production runs.

2

Folding & Forming

Aluminium is folded on CNC press brakes using controlled tooling and material-specific bend allowances. Careful forming ensures consistent angles, clean radii, and repeatable results, particularly important for lightweight components and precision assemblies.

3

Welding

Aluminium welding is carried out using suitable processes to produce strong, clean joints while controlling heat input and distortion. Welding is completed by experienced fabricators to ensure structural integrity and consistent quality across fabricated aluminium components.
