Cor-Ten steel, also known as weathering steel, is designed to develop a stable protective patina when exposed to the elements. This natural oxidation layer protects the material from further corrosion, removing the need for painting or additional coatings. At LGM Engineering, we laser cut, fold, and fabricate Cor-Ten steel for architectural, landscaping, and structural applications where appearance and longevity are equally important.
Cor-Ten is commonly used for architectural features, façades, planters, screens, signage, and structural elements where a distinctive industrial finish is desired. Over time, exposure to weather causes the surface to oxidise and darken, forming a controlled patina that both protects the steel and enhances its visual character. Material selection and detailing are important to ensure correct weathering behaviour and long-term performance.
All Cor-Ten steel is processed in-house using fibre laser cutting and CNC press brake forming to achieve accurate profiles and consistent bends. Welding is carried out using appropriate techniques to maintain structural integrity and support even weathering across welded areas. If required, fabrication can be supplied pre-weathered or left to naturally develop its patina after installation.
If you are considering Cor-Ten steel and are unsure about suitability, detailing, or expected appearance over time, our team can advise based on environment, application, and fabrication requirements.
